Our Story
In 2003 Mike and Ian ‘Cookie’ bonded under a coconut tree in Phuket. Phuket wasn’t quite as grubby then as it became later (although it was well on the way) and it still had plenty of stunning deserted beaches and hidden coves. The coconut palms swaying on a moody tropical beach represented everything that our previous urban existence could not. We learnt that locals referred to a coconut palm as The Tree of Life and it had all we needed : shade, water, food, oil to cook with or use as an antiseptic, plus you could build a house with it. Twenty useful things to do with a coconut became our first blog.
Restless Generation set out across Asia and Australia to discover and share beaches, bars and anecdotes from the road less travelled. In the days before social media and influencers it was a refreshing alternative to ending up in the same establishment as every other ‘Lonely Planet’ toting backpacker..
Since that time we’ve all become wiser. Dennis has written a book, Cookie has put together a range of natures finest organic ingredients, Mike has been planting coconut trees and Angus is showcasing his collection of vinyl after finally ditching the soundbar.
